Old Town Hall and area for monuments, that represents the classical style in Lithuania.
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and one of the country's oldest cities. It stretches along both banks of the fast flowing Neris River, and is set among hills pine forests. Vilnius is very old city indeed. The Old Town, historical centre of Vilnius, is one of the largest in Eastern Europe (360 ha). The most valuable historic and cultural heritage is concentrated here. The buildings in the old town - there are about 1.5 thousand of them - were built in a number of different centuries, therefore, it is a mixture of all European architectural styles. Although Vilnius is often called a baroque city, here you will find some buildings of gothic, renaissance and other styles. The main sights of the city are the Gediminas Castle and the Cathedral Square, symbols of the capital. Their combination is also a gateway to the historic centre of the capital. The most notable sights of Vilnius are: the oldest University in East Europe, built in the year 1579, St. Ann’s Church built at the beginning of the 16th century. Old Town Hall and area for monuments, that represents the classical style in Lithuania. The Old Town is the most popular place for tourists, because there are a lot of museums, cafes, restaurants and exhibition houses. So in one word the Old Town is the place for holidays.
Trakai castle From an aeroplane Trakai looks like a fairy tale - the Residence city of Lithuania is located next to the lake Galve. In the centre of the lake there are three little islands, and on one of them is the majestic castle, built in 14.-15.th century. Today it is a history museum.
