Vormsi is covered with a lot of forests, wooded meadows, juniper copses and big boulders.Vormsi had a dense Swedish population.30 small islets together with the long gravely Rumpo Peninsul form a nature reserve. In the nice Rumpo village are the best swimming and tenting places. On the western coast are the Saxby lighthouse and limestone bank.In Hullo village is the Swedish Vormsi Church (1632) and an old cemetery with stone circular crosses. The area of the island is 93 km2 and the population is 331. As the legends go Vormsi once consisted of three larger islands, between which the connection was held by boats. Today's Vormsi is made up of one big island and a gathering of smaller islands. The landscape is amazingly diverse on the young - three thousand years of age - Vormsi: bogs coastal medows and medows covered with scattered trees. Due to the cropping up of the land a number of smaller lakes have formed in previous sounds. Eastern part of the island is rather low and swampy, on the higher plains of the western part of the island forests grow - mainly fir and pine groves. One hundred kilometres of the island's coastline is well indented. Vormsi is separated from Hiiumaa by 11 km wide Hari Sound and from the mainland by 3km wide Voosi Sound. Very characteristic to Vormsi's bedrock, Huitberg's coral reef, is located in the dense fir-forest in the centre of the island.
